Teaching is a cooperative art, like farming and healing.Like the farmer and physician the teacher must be sensitive to the natural process of learning. It is the nature of human learning that determines the strategy and tactics of teaching. Since learning which results in expanded knowledge and improved understanding (rather than memorized facts) is essentially a process of discovery. The teacher's art consists largely in devices whereby one individual can help another to lift himself up from a state of knowing and understading less to knowing and understanding more.
